Two Ways To Wear: Leather Skirt

When getting dressed in their separate homes the Betty girls seem to unconsciously wear outfits which are variations on the same theme, great minds think alike we say. Although we share a love of all things Betty we quite often wear similar items in very different ways, which is why we have chosen to introduce to you ‘Two Ways to Wear’. This will be a regular feature on the blog which shows us two Betty girls styling and wearing the same item of clothing two different ways. By showing you our approach to dressing for differing ages and body shapes, we can hopefully inspire you to get the most out of key pieces.

The item in question to begin with is a leather skirt.  Charlotte Melling (Betty’s Creative Director) has gone for an A-line leather look skirt from ASOS, and Charlotte Jacklin (Betty’s Editor) has chosen a leather knee length pencil skirt from Beyond Retro.The shape of these two skirts are quite different and chosen because both know what style skirt suits their body shape. Charlotte M tends to go for a mini as her legs are one of her better features, especially as she still has a a tan after her summer holidays, and Charlotte J likes a high waist to lengthen her legs which is super flattering for her shape.

I had the good fortune of visiting my lovely friends Ruth and Megan at Cha Cha Cha a few days before LFW, it’s one of my favourite vintage hangouts in north London as it’s full of little gems. I picked up a cropped knitted jacket with gold buttons as it really set me in mind of the Dolce and Gabanna prints from SS14. The other piece, which has received lots of compliments, was a rather cute woven box basket.

I was also very keen to fly the flag for Marc by Marc Jacobs with my Bunny Hop t-shirt. For me this T shirt reflects the casual fun that Katy Hillier and Luella Bartley have injected into the brand – I love what the girls are doing. To finish it off I wore my favourite gold Scarab Beetle pendant from Rachel Entwistle, (who we bumped into at Somerset House) and classic Rayne flats, which are a firm Betty HQ favourite.

Fashion week involves lots of early starts, which means I will often be seen in my failsafe monochrome combo and this particular Saturday morning was no exception. I have quite a collection of high necked Victoriana style blouses in cream and white, so I picked one of my favourites and teamed it with all black patent accessories. My new Salvatore Ferragamo Vara shoes are a recent purchase and the apple of my eye! A classic retro shape with an everyday heel makes them super comfortable and well worth the investment. My Vara collection is now sitting at two pairs, and I currently have my eye on thisnew Velvet pair *swoon*. Finishing touches include my favourite red lipstick and Yes/No charm necklace which I am rarely seen without. Next time Charlotte and I should probably call ahead to check we aren’t wearing the same thing…but we probably won’t.
