Photo Diary: A Colourful Winter Seaside Break
Well they say a change is as good as a rest, and this weekend was definitely one of those where a change of scenery did me the world of good. This weekend had been booked in the diary for months, and whilst it seemed like so far away, before I knew it my bag was packed and I was ready to head to Kingsdown in Kent. You know I am pretty fond of the Garden of England’s coastline , I even lived there for a couple of years so I am always very happy to get back for a visit.
My friend had stayed at The Victory in Kingsdown before and knew that it would make the perfect getaway for ten frazzled mums and she was not wrong. As one review said, there’s not many Air B’n’Bs that you travel too and the place looks better than the photos, I couldn’t agree more. Down a private road of pastel houses, you reach The Victory, which is a beach facing property next to The Kingsdown Pub. The inside is an interior design dream, and I later found out it’s the same couple behind The Rose in Deal, which I have been lucky enough to stay at a couple of times.
One half of the couple Alex is from Stockholm, and the design influence from Sweden ran through the theme of the house, from the wooden panelled walls to the privy at the back of the house which was converted into a very cosy sauna. My favourite feature of the house had to be the upstairs lounge, which had a beautiful palm chair snug and looked out to the beach huts and pebbled beach. No better place for a cup of tea and catch up with friends.
The house sleeps ten, and is a 45 minute walk along the coast to Deal which is a lovely place for lunch and a wander around the shops. I visited the new to me, Deal Pier Kitchen which was a great place for lunch. I also went back the next day to The Rose, which if it isn’t clear by now I am always happy to return too. If you are looking for more things to do in Deal visit this blog post I wrote here and follow my lovely friend Rosie Foodie for recommendations, who splits her time between London and Deal .
Hope you enjoy the riot of colour as much as me, and if you’re looking for a seaside getaway with friends or family, I’d definitely add it to the list to consider.
