Five Friday Feelgoods #2

FFF.jpg

Happy 1st of May! Ok so my last Friday Feelgood’s was a month ago, how is that even possible?! Time flies and drags at the same time. I’ve been pretty regular with content on here, so won’t apologise too much. But maybe at the moment I’ll make this feature monthly as to not over promise and under deliver, no-one likes that. I hope you are all keeping safe and well, sending lots of love through the computer screen, here are few things that have been bringing me joy recently.

Peonies

I know I included flowers on my last feelgoods, but whilst the floral selection is this good, it's going to long continue. I am sure you’ve heard it’s Peony season, I mean if you haven’t, YOU ARE WELCOME. There’s around 8-12 weeks where my favourite flower is available. Right now Coral Charm, which is the queen of the peony, is available. I found some in Tesco for £6 the other day when I was doing my big shop, I’ve also heard rumours you can find them in M&S and Waitrose too. If anyone has any confirmation on Lidl and Aldi, please let know, as I often found bunches in Aldi last year. Obviously at the moment going around shops looking for flowers isn’t what we should be doing, so if you can’t find them on your supermarket trip, Bloom & Wild have them online*, and my friend sent me the loveliest ones from Moonpig believe it or not. Also I know Arena flowers, Waitrose, Run Wild Floral Design, The Flower Box and Floom have availability to deliver to your door, and check out your local florist to see if they are doing doorstep drops.

*If you use the link above to Bloom & Wild, you can get £10 off your first order.

Rhubarb and White Chocolate Blondies

If you want a sweet treat, and have baked your favourite go-to recipes may I recommend Rosie Birkett’s Rhubarb and White chocolate blondies? They sound a bit complicated to make, and by that, I mean it is slightly more effort than banana bread. I promise it is worth it. I’ve made them twice now, and whilst Rhubarb is still in season I would definitely recommend giving them a whirl. They are gooey, tangy, and everything in between, probably my favourite blondie ever, which is quite the bold statement. What have you been baking recently?

Tie Dying

TYE DYE TSHIRT.jpg

Nothing is safe in our house, I mean NOTHING. I want to tie dye everything that’s white, luckily I am slowly running out of things to dye. There’s something about social distancing that has got everyone reaching for the clothes dye it seems, and I think it’s because it’s really fun yet relatively easy to do. I have tried Dylon hand dye and also Rit dye in a water bath, I liked doing it this way so I could control the shade of the dye to a point. On my to do list this weekend is avocado stone tie dying. Whatever method you try make sure you throw your ‘Walter Whites’ aka your pants in with them as I am sure putting on tie dye underwear is making me slightly happier every day.

Socially Distanced Birthdays

We had our first birthday in lock down and whilst I was a tad anxious about it, because June kept talking about an imaginary party she’d planned in her head, it was actually bloody lovely. I was lucky enough to be able to to take the day off work, and we spent it doing whatever she wanted, we had zero tantrums all day. I baked a cake, using a packet mix, because I couldn’t face any excess washing up. We also played musical statues, ate pizza and chippies, and played in her new summer house. My birthday is up next this month, and whilst it would be nice to see people, I really enjoyed it just being the three of us - so wouldn’t mind more of the same. Maybe pass the parcel instead of musical statues though. Have you had a birthday during social distancing yet?

Table Cloths

I get a lot of questions asking about where my tablecloths are from, and since I added a new one to my collection this week I thought I better share some sources. Laying the table is something I’ve long loved doing, a table cloth sets it off perfectly and hides all June’s crafting efforts we can’t get off the table very quickly. Cornish Vintage has a great selection of flat sheets which can be easily used for your table. I also love looking for vintage ones on Etsy, there’s also Magic Linen and My Linen Home. Whilst it’s not possible right now, TK Maxx always have some great ones in. Zara Home and H&M Home have some really affordable ones, and if you are looking for something extra special I’d take a look at Yolke or Projekti Tyyny.
