Scallop Rug Review

One question I get a lot, is asking about where I get my rugs from. I wasn’t gatekeeping this information, I promise, I just wanted to give them a few weeks to see if I would recommend them, and as I should have a predicted weeks turned into months…every single time! You’ve probably seen me with a few rugs over the years, we used to have *the* La Redoute one, but I’d say I was never sold on it for our style. But I think rugs are sometimes what you can afford vs what you can live with, rather than the perfect rug, because they can run up into the thousands. It’s not that I don’t think they are worth that, I just know at this stage in my life with a child under five and a dog that a rug is not going to be for life right now. 

The La Redoute rug now lives with some freshers in Lincoln, I hope they are having a lovely time together. And for a brief while I had another one in the dining room which lives with my friend in her first ever house. Whilst we’d all like to avoid interior mistakes, it’s not always possible, sometimes you just make an error and whatever you had hoped would work in your space just doesn’t. There’s always ways of getting some money back by selling on second hand, but one of the rugs I got through a campaign, and I always pass on anything I got as a PR product free of charge and the initial rug I mentioned we’d had a few years so was happy to pass on to a good home, like the freshers. 

Anyway, let’s cut to the chase, my current rugs. I had learnt over the past few years, cream rugs aren’t going to cut it, I needed something really really hard wearing and after some research realised this was going to be a Jute rug. This also fit the bill in terms of decor, as both the living room and dining room had bold patterns on the wall, and needed a floor covering that wasn’t too distracting. Eventually I discovered these scalloped edged rugs and knew they were going to work perfectly, my only hesitation was am I making another rug mistake?! 

Let’s talk about the one in the living first, this was ordered on Etsy directly from the factory. I was a bit worried this rug was a bit plain (I mean am I ever happy!), and would be a bit rough under for in our living room, but I am SO happy with this purchase. It came much quicker than the estimated delivery time and we’ve had it a few months and it looks as good as new. I do my work outs on top of it with a yoga mat, the dog and small human run around after each other on it every day, it gets a lot of traffic and it’s held up wonderfully. 

The size was also something I was unsure about, we got the 5ft x 8ft which worked out around £140 plus delivery. We haven’t put anything underneath it, didn’t really give it time to settle and it’s thrived under sub par conditions, a strong recommend from me. 

Now a quick note on the rug in our dining room. This one is very photogenic, which to be honest unless you’re a full time content creator probably isn’t high on your list of priorities. I don’t love it as much as the other one. We didn’t leave enough time before we put the dining table back on it to settle down, would definitely recommend this if you have the space / time. Another thing is the scallops on this one are lighter, so often bend up and don’t sit flat on the floor. Don’t really know why, but it causes mild irritation in me sometimes, thought I should share. It also looks a bit tatty in places after a few months, there’s a close up photo to show you what I mean. That can be solved with a little trim, but trimming my rug, ahem, is just another thing on my to do list I probably won’t get around too. This room needed the green trim, I think it ties the whole room together, we got the 7ft x 9ft one, and for a rug of that size it’s great value for money. I just don’t rate the quality as much as the other scalloped rug we have.
